My Help Comes from the Lord

For this entry, I want to share some verses that have been an encouragement to me lately. Sometimes I think I get so caught up in life that I forget why I am here, why God has me on this earth. I turn my eyes from the truth and start to form to earthly ways. But God keeps pulling me back to Him, and for that I am thankful. He keeps drawing me to His Word. I also find myself trying to do things on my own and trying to control each situation. But I can’t on my own.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you….And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-9, 19

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?’” Hebrews 13:5-6

The following is a chapter that my preschoolers memorized this year and has always been a favorite of mine. I hope that I taught them that as they grow and go through each grade that they don’t just memorize their verses just to get a good grade but they will live by these verses and hide it in their hearts.

“I lift my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip-He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you-the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm-he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” Psalm 121
